As of now this is my final post. I honestly might come back to this some day. I really liked being able to talk about these topics and create a nice looking blog. I shared a part of myself on this and thank you to those who actually cared about it. Blogs in general are pretty important. They allow people to express themselves to an audience without having to build up a physical one. I think blogs can be a good outlet for people and creating your own blog is a good idea. Everyone has something to share that can be valued by someone else.
My favorite blog was a blog in block 2. It's called Zane's Food Blog and I found it really interesting. You should check it out. I think an unforgettable blog is the forbidden blog Jackson's hair growing back. Don't check it out really you shouldn't.
For those looking to start a blog I think the best advice I can give you is have a topic you can build off of. For some people that could be their lives, the sports they play, fashion and makeup, creativity, etc. I think really anyone can do a blog on anything if they're passionate about it.
I really think I might start this up again at some point. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks for coming along with me of this beautiful adventure of making people angry.
Lil Peep is an icon in the music industry. He started making music off of nothing and blew up into a strong influence for many people. Peep transformed the underground rap scene and brought a whole new perspective to music. It's almost like Peep took a whole community that was hiding in secret and said, "Aye look our music good too btw," much like how Kurt Cobain created and set the tone for the Grunge Era. I have a lot of respect for Lil Peep. His music marks a changing point in my life and I am so thankful to have lived in the same time as him. This post is not about bashing Lil Peep's music, it's about why people should not try to finish his music for him.
After Lil Peep's death on November 5th, 2017, his popularity increased. It's sad to say it, but that was the biggest chance he's gotten to spread his music. He was close to a lot of people in the underground rap scene and so many people can truly say that Lil Peep changed and left a lasting effect on their lives. Around the time of his death he was working on a couple other songs. After his death the people around him finished and released his music in the album "Come Over When You're Sober, Part 2" and the single "Falling Down" which also featured XXXTentacion along with the remix "Sunlight On Your Skin" that features iLoveMakonnen and Fall Out Boy. If you start off listening to songs Peep released in 2014-2017 you can really get a feel for the general concept of his music. The music released after his death in 2017 sounds hardly anything like him. Yes it really is him singing, yes it has the same general tone, but there is something off. You can tell that it feels unfinished and like there's an emptiness to it. I completely understand the support for this album and why people honor the death of Lil Peep, but this music is not his music. It feels like a way for Columbia Records to make a couple bucks off of someone's death. Here's an example:
Original
Columbia Records
There's an obvious difference. There are multiple songs Lil Peep shares with different artists as well as his "own" songs. I feel like in the case of a collaboration Peep had with another artist, it makes sense to have the other artist finish the song. I think it works well in his song with XXXTentacion. I think when Columbia Records tries to finish Peep's music for him it comes out wrong and empty. It does not feel real. If Vincent Van Gogh or Leonardo da Vinci was working on a painting and they died halfway through making it, would it not be wrong for someone else to come in and finish it for them then sell it for their own benefit? I do not find this respectful. If Columbia Records truly wanted to honor Lil Peep they would have just released an album with all the things he was working on untouched. They could have sold the painting without finishing it for him. This is why Lil Peep has bad music.
Flat out, Super Hero Movies are overrated. I'm sure a lot of people have this same opinion but I would like to fully go into this opinion today. "Super Hero Movies" is a pretty broad term. To me a "Super Hero" movie is an action packed, CGI, massive budget movie. I feel like most action/thriller movies fall into this too. I'm not just ranting about Marvel movies I'm giving my opinion on the whole genre.
Films are one of the most intimate form of art. Everyone has that one movie that made them cry their eyes out or even just hit a cord with them on a whole emotional level. The way directors shoot shots and capture then translate the visual into feeling is truly beautiful. Take for example the way Stanley Kubrick shot 2001: A Space Odyssey. In one scene a woman in a space ship is able to walk on the ceiling due to zero gravity. As you watch the shot it really conveys a sense of eeriness and suspense. It truly makes your stomach twist and turn as you watch. The length of the shot would be boring in other aspects but this movie it's perfect because of how drawn out it is. It creates a twisting pile of suspense even though there isn't a jump scare or even a conclusion to why you feel scared. This shows how strong the use of film can truly be.
The issue with big budget, crazy action packed super hero movies is there isn't a connection with the audience. It's a capitalistic, money making industry that uses the characters you love as a way to take your money. Take for example, Avengers: Infinity War one of the biggest cross-over movies out there. Towards the end of the movie when Thanos has all the Infinity Stones, Thor comes down from the sky and stabs him. As you sit there watching you think, "Oh wow maybe Thanos is actually going to be stopped. Ok cool." But as soon as Thanos tricks Thor and kills a third of the universe you think to yourself, "Oh wow that sucks. The only emotional attachment I had to this movie was the characters and he just murdered almost all of them but that's cool I'm fine, we're fine," and maybe you cry or get upset. But that conversation Thor and Thanos have is the climax and most suspenseful part of the movie. The weirdest part of it is after the movie is over that emotion and suspense you felt is quickly forgotten because deep down you know Marvel wouldn't kill off their industry like that. Spiderman dies and what do you know, new Spiderman movie.
Super Hero Movies are made to make money off your emotions. That's just how the industry works. Movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey or Fargo or even Kill Bill do a much better job at building suspense and holding it. I think they even do a way better job at their action scenes. The sense of pure dread you feel at the climax of these movies is truthfully unbearable and it sits with you. Movies like Avengers: Infinity War or Jumanji or Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice tell cheep stories that guilt you into feeling emotions for the characters. It's the same plot over and over again. Imagine actually being able to go into the movie theater and see something purely fresh. Something that you couldn't even comprehend being a thing and it being shown to you then actually having your emotional cords struck. Wouldn't that be refreshing to see something that didn't have the same concept as Die Hard (great movie by the way). As an audience we should seek to find better forms of entertainment. We all deserve better than another superhero movie sequel.
This is the blog. In this blog I want to share with you some of my unpopular opinions. When we were told to come up with a blog theme I thought a lot about this. I thought about doing blogs on music, painting, cooking, swimming, and makeup but overall all of those ideas were not something I could have complete thoughts on. With all of those activities I really only think of it as: "You just do it what is there to talk about." But then I had a really interesting thought.
There are things in this world that are very mainstream and blown up by everyone. So many people praise these various topics and I believe some people go along with them because everyone else does. So the purpose of this blog is to share my opinion on these mainstream topics so others can feel like they have the ability to freely think about topics and make their own decisions. I know there are people who truly disagree with my opinions and I am okay with that. That is the whole purpose of this blog as it is named Unpopular Opinions.
